Welcome to the Fall Academy!

We will all be learning with and from Tammy Heflebower – “Standards-Based Grading for School Leaders - Transform your school’s grading system into one that really shows what students knowon November 16, from 1:30 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. and November 17, from 9:00 A.M. - 3:30 P.M. at the Olmsted Center on the Drake University Campus in Des Moines, located at 2507 University Avenue, Des Moines, IA.

Handout:  We are "green"!  Please download the handout for your own use.  You are welcome to print it if you like.

Cancellation:  If you are unable to attend this workshop, please contact Bridget Arrasmith (bridget.arrasmith@drake.edu or 515.271.1872). or Lou Howell (LouHowell@mediacombb.net or 515.229.4781). You will be provided a written voucher that may be presented by an individual of your choice on the day of the event. Failure to notify the need for cancellation or replacement will result in the full charge for the event. 

Book: Each of you will receive the book, A School Leader’s Guide to Standards-Based Grading (Marzano, 2014)


Registration: On-site registration on the second floor in the Olmsted Center on the Drake Campus will be from 1:00 P.M. – 1:30 P.M.  You will receive a folder and a book at that time. Afternoon snacks and dinner will be provided on 11/16 and a continental breakfast and lunch will be provided on 11/17. 

 

Directions:

Parking: You may park on the street at no cost. If you want to park in the lot by Olmsted or in the lot across the street, you will need to print a parking ticket to put in your front window. Iowa ASCD is charged for the ticket so please only print once.

Dress: Dress for your personal learning!   Be sure to wear layers to assure you are comfortable in the air-conditioned/heated building.  Please note the building is latex-free.

Resources: Bring your computer/laptop/phone/tablet! We go “green” whenever possible and will provide digital access to Tammy’s resources. We have attached a copy of the handout in case you want to print a copy of it before you come. In addition, you might want to tweet about your learning; if so, please use the hash tag #IowaASCDSBG. In addition, you may want to follow us on Twitter @IowaASCD as we are sharing information and ideas all this week and following the conference. You will also want to check out The Source, our newsletter that goes out the first and third Friday of each month (except July) as it will continue to provide articles with information regarding Standards-Based grading. Hotel: If you are planning to come the night before or stay on November 16, The Holiday Inn Express is very close to the Drake campus.  The address for the Holiday Inn Express is 1140 24th Street in Des Moines - across from Drake.  The price is $125 per night if you share the code, "Drake," when you book your room(s).

 

Sponsors: Two sponsors of the conference will be available on Monday and/or Tuesday. You are welcome to talk with them about your standards-based grading needs.
