Chapter 2 - Role of Passion

October 2, 2012 at 6:04 AM

Passion is important in all our lives - whether we are the student, the teacher, the parent, a leader. Without passion, we struggle with commitment and often do things for compliance.

British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli shared that "people achieve greatness when they act from their hearts and their passion." Kids experience that same greatness when their learning is not just through their heads but also their hearts and passion. When their emotions are involved in their learning, they achieve more, they retain more, and their conceptual understanding increases.

I believe the same is true for teaching. When we "teach like a pro," we strive to know the passion of our students, and connect our teaching with that spark. We build relationships with our students. We continue to develop our "teaching knowledge and skills" so that they are "the best" for each of our students. Head + heart (Smart Heart) are the musts in building professional capital in our work.

Passion - the source of our finest moments.
